Leave-In Conditioners: what are they and which is for me?

Leave-In Conditioners: what are they and which is for me?

The battle to maintain hairs' moisture is one most of us are all far too familiar with. Cold winter air, central heating, air conditioning, over styling, dying your hair, all contribute to that dreaded dryness and are unfortunately in most cases hard to avoid. Enter leave-in conditioners, the answer to your dry hair woes. Here’s everything you need to know about these hair heroes.

Leave IN?

The name says it all really. Unlike typical rinse-out conditioners, leave-in conditioners are applied to towel dried hair, after you’ve shampooed and conditioned. Formulated to give an extra boost of moisture, leave-ins also provide styling benefits, as they make hair much easier to detangle and work with. Simply apply to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair, work out the tangles from the tip towards root with a wide-toothed comb and style as normal. No water needed. Easy peasy.

For Me?

Used strategically, leave-in conditioners can benefit every hair type when a moisture boost is needed. It’s about picking the right format and texture for you and selecting your leave-in days for maximum effect.

At Noughty we offer two leave-in conditioners; Intensive Care Leave-In Conditioner and Thirst Aid Conditioning and Detangling Spray. Thirst Aid is a lightweight formula in a spray format, making it a great choice for fine hair as it won’t weigh it down. It adds a lightweight mist of moisture, so can be used every day or simply on those days when environmental conditions are sucking extra moisture out, or you’re nearing time for a cut, so dry ends are a plague. For thicker, textured hair types, Intensive Care might be more suited as your daily go to. The super quenching blend in a cream format provides a more intense moisture boost to hair in need of a little TLC.

But you don’t have to choose one and stick with it. The advantage of a leave-in is its versatility. As they are a hybrid between a conditioner, treatment and styler, you can incorporate them both into your routine as required. For thicker, dryer hair you may want to use Intensive care as your daily go to, with Thirst Aid stepping in when your hair’s in prime condition – right after a cut or a mask. Or for finer hair, Intensive Care can be used as an overnight treatment and Thirst Aid for its detangling benefits as a pre-styling go to.

Inside Out

We’ve taken a balanced approach when it comes to the plant oils and extracts in Intensive Care and Thirst Aid. After all, we’re firm believers in the right ingredients for the right product. By playing with the levels of extracts and oils in each formulation, Thirst Aid and Intensive Care use the power of similar ingredients to produce a very different effect. What both these heroes of moisture have in common is the advantage of the extended contact time being left in the hair provides, to enhance the hairs natural barrier and add that critical moisture, leaving stronger, smoother, healthier-looking manes behind.

If you wanted to, you could use both leave-ins in different ways, doubling up on the moisture. Have a play around with what is best for your hair as everyone's hair is different!
